The support you need when you need it. The Information Technology Services at Suffolk University, (ITS) supports all University computing equipment including PCs and University-provided peripherals, (e.g. printers, scanners, PDAs) and access to the University network.

Most of our classrooms are state-of-the-art and well-equipped with multimedia technology, offering the ideal learning environment for both students and instructors.

For Students

Students are not required to provide their own laptop to enroll in courses at Suffolk University, excluding Art & Design students who must have a personal laptop that meets the requirements provided. For other programs, when choosing a personal laptop, students should check with the Department Chair of their major on any specific equipment recommendations.

Required Device Specifications for Art & Design Students

Every student enrolled in an Art & Design studio course that requires software use must provide their own laptop. See info on the Art & Design Bring Your Own Device program [PDF].

Recommended Specifications for Law School Students

Due to the Examsoft software used by Suffolk Law in exams, personal laptops must conform to the minimum specifications provided in order to be compatible:

  • Webcam Required
  • Microphone Required
  • 4 GB Free HDD space
  • 4 GB RAM Required
  • 8 GB recommended
  • CPU equiv. to Intel i3 2+GHZ
  • Operating system that meets either:
    • MAC OS Big Sur, Monterey, or Ventura
    • Windows 10 (Version 1809 or 1903) or above

Laptop Recommendations for General Use

Our recommended minimum laptop specifications for general use on personal devices is:

  • Processor: 8th Generation Intel Core i5 or better
  • Memory: 8-16 GB Minimum
  • Operating System: win 10 or Mac OS 10.12
  • Hard Disk Drive: 256-500 GB SSD
  • Display: 12 inches or larger
    • 1440 x 900 Resolution or better
    • Integrated graphics
  • Audio: Built-in audio capabilities
    • Speaker
    • Microphone
  • Communication devices:
    • Wireless (802.11a/b/g/n compliant)
  • Expansion Ports: Two USB 2.0/3.0 and/or USB-C
  • Network card: Wi-Fi (802.11ac); Dual-Band (2.4 & 5 GHz)
    Make sure the wireless card supports 802.11n in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
