Vacation Time
- Depending on your position and length of employment, you can be allotted between 15-23 days of vacation time for the fiscal year.
Health Absence
- Full-time staff will receive 10 days of health absence time.
Holidays
- Suffolk University observes all national and Massachusetts holidays.
- The University celebrates Thanksgiving Break by closing from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving through the Friday after Thanksgiving.
- The University celebrates Winter Break by closing, at a minimum, from December 24 to January 1. The actual dates of winter break may be slightly longer depending on the day of the week Christmas and New Year’s Day occur.
- During the summer months, starting the week following Commencement and through the first week of August, Suffolk University will provide an opportunity for eligible staff to work under a compressed weekly work schedule. Depending on departmental needs, this allows participating employees to have Fridays off.

The University offers a generous tuition remission benefit to eligible employees. The amount of credits covered under tuition remission depends on the standard working hours. The benefit for classes taken in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the Sawyer Business School begin at the start of the term immediately following the employee’s date of employment. Tuition benefits for spouses/domestic partners and children, and courses in the evening Law program, are available after 2 years of service. Suffolk University is a member of the Tuition Exchange (TE) program. TE is a national scholarship exchange program whose membership is made up of over 700+ colleges and universities. Under this program, dependent children in or entering college may apply for a tuition scholarship from any school in the TE network as an “export” student. The Tuition Exchange scholarship application for dependent students is available after 2 years of continuous full-time employment. We are committed to providing a retirement savings program to prepare you for your life after Suffolk. If you are in a faculty or staff role and participate, the University will match up to 9% of your pay to your retirement account. You may choose to have your contributions go to TIAA, Fidelity or split between the two.
The Suffolk University benefit plans help to maintain and improve your physical wellbeing and safeguard your loved ones. We provide comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
Medical – The University offers 3 medical plans through Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. We have an HMO, PPO, and a High Deductible PPO with a Health Savings Account (HSA). New hires who enroll in the High Deductible PPO will receive a contribution to their HSA from the University!
Dental – The University offers 1 dental plan through Delta Dental with access to 2 networks.
Vision – The University offers 1 vision plan through EyeMed, which includes a national network of providers.
