Rape Aggression Defense Program
The mission of the RAD program is: “...to establish an accessible, constantly improving and internationally respected alliance of dedicated instructors. These instructors, in turn, will provide educational opportunities for women, children, men and seniors to create a safer future for themselves. In doing this, we challenge society to evolve into an existence where violence is not an acceptable part of daily life.”
All instructors are nationally certified in the system and must re-certify annually, and all university instructors are members of the University Police Department at this time. The purpose of the course is to not only teach self-defense techniques but to discuss and bring about situational awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. Once a participant is empowered with this information and tools, instructors then work with them on progressing on the basics of hands-on self-defense training (Note: RAD is not a martial arts program).
The program is 12 hours long, and attendance is mandatory to complete the course. The course is separated into three classes which are approximately four hours each. Basic Women’s RAD courses are held twice a semester. Each participant is issued a student manual/reference book and once completed, has a lifetime return policy that is honored worldwide. Participants are instructed in risk reduction and avoidance practices, and then in hands-on self-defense techniques. These important techniques and practices are then brought together on the last class by the instructors.

RAD course schedules are always posted throughout campus during the semester on the various TV displays and sent out to the community through emails and posters.
