Veterans Legal Advocacy Project

Veterans Legal Advocacy Project (V-LAP)

Every day, veterans in Greater Boston struggle to find and maintain stable housing in one of the nation's most expensive rental markets. Suffolk Law students and faculty are working to change that through direct legal assistance and advocacy for affordable housing solutions.

Through V-LAP, Suffolk Law student attorneys work under experienced faculty supervision to provide free legal assistance to veterans facing housing challenges.

Direct Legal Services:

  • Helping when landlords illegally refuse to accept housing vouchers or claim no units are available to voucher holders
  • Assistance with landlord-tenant disputes
  • Support for disability accommodation requests (such as designated parking or safety modifications)
  • Defense against unjust evictions
  • Resolution of unsafe housing conditions

Education and Advocacy:

  • Public education on housing rights for veteran service organizations
  • Close collaboration with and technical assistance for Home Base and other veteran support organizations
  • Advocacy to address systemic affordable housing barriers such as unfair lending practices and restrictive zoning laws that limit affordable housing
V-LAP is made possible through support from Suffolk Construction and Hinckley Allen.
