Tell us a little about yourself:

I am Nigerian American and originally from Houston, Texas. I currently hold a position as a student advisor for Chegg Inc. where I focus on bridging the gap of education tech to higher ed. I also work as a sales associate with CONCEPTS focusing on progressing high fashion in Boston with driven sales results.

Why did you choose Suffolk?

As a first-generation student, choosing Suffolk University was greatly influenced by its foundation and commitment to supporting students like me. The university's focus on empowering first-generation students resonated with my personal journey and aspirations. Being located in the heart of Boston, Suffolk presented a wealth of opportunities—from internships and networking to cultural experiences. I recognized that by attending Suffolk, I could not only benefit from its inclusive educational environment but also leverage the myriad opportunities that a dynamic city like Boston offers. This understanding was a key factor in my decision to attend Suffolk, knowing that it was a place where I could seize opportunities and thrive.

What experiences have been the most compelling, or significant for you so far?

In my role in student government, I've had a significant impact. It's given me a seat at the decision-making table, allowing me to help shape policies that make students feel safe and heard. My main goal has been to ensure every student feels important and to constantly work on improving our campus environment and this has helped me get there. This experience has been vital in teaching me about leadership and effective communication.

My first course in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) at Suffolk, taught by Professor Melenovsky, was a pivotal experience for me. It wasn't just about learning theories; it encouraged me to see how these ideas apply to the real world, confirming that I had chosen the right major. Furthermore, Professor Melenovsky's involvement in the PPE club added to my enthusiasm. His dedication to both teaching and the club showed a deep passion for the subject, creating a vibrant community of students and faculty who were equally passionate. This blend of engaging classes and active club participation really deepened my interest in PPE and made my learning experience more meaningful.

At Suffolk University, I've had two significant internships. First, with Vivint Smart Home, where I attended a sales boot camp. This experience sharpened my professional skills, especially in sales, communication, and strategy. Secondly, I interned at the state house with state rep Shirley Ariaga as a legislative intern. This role gave me a real-world look into politics and lawmaking, aligning with my potential career interests. Both internships have been crucial in developing my professional abilities and understanding of different career paths.

Why is it important to get involved in student organizations?

Currently I serve as the Student Government President, and I've learned invaluable lessons in leadership and communication. My role involves actively engaging with both students and faculty, bridging their needs and perspectives. This experience has also taught me the importance of legacy; the decisions I make and the initiatives I implement are paving the way for future leaders.

What are your plans after graduation?

After I graduate, I plan to start a foundation to help lower-income students in Texas, focusing on reducing educational inequalities. I'll provide resources and support to give these students better opportunities. Also, I want to work in public policy, either at the state or national level, to advocate for students who come from backgrounds like mine. My goal is to push for changes in education that help these students succeed.

Suffolk University has been instrumental in my development as a leader and professional. It's provided me with numerous networking opportunities, allowing me to connect with like-minded individuals and industry professionals. Through these experiences, I've learned the importance of commitment and the steps necessary to achieve my goals. Additionally, Suffolk has been a significant source of support, offering guidance and resources that have helped me grow both personally and academically. This environment has truly been pivotal in shaping my journey towards success.
