What is your area of study at Suffolk?
I’m pursuing my BA in criminal justice and Spanish.
Why are you pursuing this degree? What first got you interested?
Studying Spanish has opened so many doors to me. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US and pursuing this degree is helping me to communicate better and will make me a better candidate in my chosen field. Criminal justice was always a passion and pursuing this degree was always something I wanted to do.
Why did you choose Suffolk?
During high school, Suffolk offered me many opportunities and opened many doors to me because of my involvement with the Boston Deba te League. Suffolk always accepted me and offered me everything I needed to make my dream of pursuing a degree come true.
Tell us about one of the impactful experiences you’ve had at Suffolk so far.
Participating in Suffolk Law’s Immigrant Justice Clinic as an interpreter has impacted me a lot. As an immigrant, (I’m originally from Brazil), I know how expensive and difficult immigration processes can be. Being able to help people going through that process for free and give them hope about their situations while speaking their language was an incredibly significant experience to me.
Are there any faculty members you would consider as a mentor?
Professor Iani Moreno helped me a lot during my time at Suffolk. She always helps me the best she can, offering me all the advice and support. She always shares professional opportunities.
What are your future career ambitions or goals?
As a first-generation immigrant I want to connect and help my community. From a diverse background myself, I am passionate about connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. Being fluent in three languages allows me to connect and explore opportunities around the country. My future ambition is to instill hope and empowerment in marginalized communities to reflect my empathy and dedication to creating a more equitable society. The opportunities I’ve had at Suffolk have been invaluable to me and my career.
