Biography

Professional Activities

STEPHEN C. HICKS M.A., LL.B., LL.M. was the Director of the Graduate Law Program in Global Technology, the Director of the International Internship Program, and the Director of the executive LL.M. degree program in Budapest, Hungary, from their inception, until 2011. He has been a Professor of Law at Suffolk since 1977. He teaches in the areas of torts, comparative law and legal theory. A graduate of Cambridge University, England, and the University of Virginia School of Law, he is the author of a book on modern legal theory, and has co-authored two books on feminism, gender bias and the law. He was also an editor of an earlier edition of Black s Law Dictionary. In addition, Professor Hicks has published over thirty articles and papers in the areas of legal theory, the history of ideas, and comparative law. He is also an experienced mediator and arbitrator specializing in torts cases. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, a Visiting Lecturer at Helsinki University, and has taught courses at Lund University, Sweden, Muenster, Germany, and Hanoi, Vietnam. He has spoken at conferences and meetings around the world through his activities in the American Society of Comparative Law and the International Association of Legal and Social Philosophy. In his role as director of the LL.M. he visited law schools, universities and other programs, on every continent, lecturing on the case method, legal reasoning and the internationalization of legal education, globalization, and transnational lawyering.
