Biography
Professor Mellen brings 15 years of experience as a senior sales executive in the global market research industry to her role at Suffolk University's Sawyer Business School. She has worked with organizations ranging from Fortune 1000 companies to start-ups across diverse industries, generating over $20 million in revenue as Vice President for Strategic Accounts at Gartner Group and The Yankee Group (now S&P Global).
Since transitioning to higher education in 2014, she has focused on teaching, advising, and curriculum development in business communication, business foundations, and professional selling. Her immersive learning approach integrates real-world applications, including market research projects and case competitions with companies such as EveryBodyFights, GrubHub, LEGO Discovery Center, Mass General Hospital, Pandora, SiriusXM, and Sonos.
Dedicated to preparing students for the evolving workforce, Professor Mellen incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) into her teaching, equipping students with the skills to leverage AI in business communication, problem-solving, and decision-making. She also oversees the curriculum for SBS 100: Pathways to Success – Navigating Your First Year at Suffolk to support first-year business school students' transition, engagement, and retention. As a doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership, her research on supporting persistence for first-year students informs her work in advancing socioeconomic mobility.
