Biography
Anna Gitelman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design. Anna is dedicated to her academic work and has taught extensively in the area of analytical representation and drawing. She has been the recipient of national grants to integrate practice, education, lighting design, and sustainability principles into Suffolk’s graduate and undergraduate interior architecture curriculum.
Anna is an architectural designer and founding principal of the Boston-based architecture firm zvzgstudio where she unites theory and practice by combining academic and research work. zvzgstudio is a creative partnership that believes in harmony found through the unity of art and architecture. The studio is a laboratory dedicated to researching issues of globalism, technology, and materiality through the built form. Balancing education, practice, and research, the office explores an innovative approach to the architecture and design of urban environments and the technologies that build them. Recent projects include “The Loop”—a 25 acres urban development in Changchun, China — and a ski house in the White Mountains, New Hampshire, among others.
Earlier in her career, Anna worked across a wide range of design practices including the industry-defining national firms like Stantec, Arrowstreet and Cannon Design. As Lead Designer, she managed cross-disciplinary teams and was responsible for the design and development of large infrastructure projects that include the strategic redevelopment of the old railroad yard in downtown Miami to the urban renewal of the historic center of Worcester. She was instrumental in the adoption of technical innovation to achieve high sustainability goals and high design standards.
Anna is a member of several professional organizations, a speaker at various architectural and interior design forums and conferences, and a member of the jury for different competitions. She is an active member of the Interior Design Educators Council and currently serves as Regional Chair.
Anna received her Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) and has served as a design critic at institutions including Mass Art, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Harvard GSD. Her undergraduate work in Architecture and Urban Planning was completed at the Moscow Architectural Institute, where she graduated magna cum laude.
