Biography
Georgi Georgiev joined the Sociology & Criminal Justice Department at Suffolk University in the Fall of 2024. Before transitioning to Suffolk, he completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of South Florida in 2024 with the dissertation topic "From Corruption and State Capture to a Populist Backlash: The Challenges to Democracy in Eastern Europe.". Dr. Georgiev's research portfolio centers around challenges to democracy, democratic institutions, and democratic citizenship. Under these rubrics, he has worked on issues including communities and crime, corruption, social inequalities, human rights, and populism. He has designed and taught Sociology and Criminal Justice courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Contemporary Social Problems, Social Justice, Political Sociology, Race, Crime and Ethnicity, and Pathways through Criminal Justice.
