Certificate Programs

Our certificate programs provide an opportunity for public and nonprofit sector employees to network, share ideas, and build long lasting relationships with their classmates, while receiving an affordable graduate level education. By partnering with their employer, The Moakley Center is able to educate various public and nonprofit employees across Massachusetts over the span of 25 Fridays, and give them the tools they need for their career aspirations. To date, over 2,000 public service and nonprofit managers have graduated from the program.

Basic Requirements

You must successfully complete (receive a passing grade) in at least 80% of the offered courses.

Passing Grade

A passing grade is completion of a course’s specifically outlined requirements at a “C” (75%) level. Students who have not completed work at this level will receive a NP (not pass) for the course.

Graduating with Distinction

You must receive an “A” in all certificate courses.

Incompletes

In the event of extenuating circumstances (such as a medical problem or job relocation), a student may request a grade of "I," which means incomplete. Granting of an incomplete grade is at the professor’s discretion and can only be granted if 50% of the required work has been completed. By comparison, and for similar reasons, a student may request an incomplete from the overall program from the program director. All incomplete work must be completed within one calendar year or the course or overall certificate grade changes to NP (not pass).

Taking the Next Step: Moakley Scholars

Our certificate programs offer a taste of what graduate school is like, and teach the same management classes offered in Suffolk's Masters of Public Administration program. If you receive a "B" or higher in a certificate course that has a Suffolk University equivalent on campus, you may be eligible to waive the equivalent courses towards the MPA program at Suffolk University (up to 4 courses).
