Publications & Resources
The Center for Women's Health and Human Rights (CWHHR) provides information and resources that focus on women's health and human rights in the social sciences, arts and humanities, and public policy. We also partner with organizations to help advance women's physical, mental, and social well-being.
Definitions
Health...
is “a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” -World Health Organization (WHO).
Women's Health is uniquely influenced in complex ways by the social, political, environmental, and economic context of women’s lives, as well as by biology.
Health and Human Rights...
work together synergistically to promote a broad vision of human well-being and dignity:
- Human rights violations compromise women’s health.
- Protection and promotion of human rights can improve women’s health as powerfully as a vaccine.
- Health enables people to enjoy their rights.
Women’s Human Rights...
are indivisible and universal and include the right to the attainment of the highest possible level of health.
