Academic Period Course Load

The number of credits you are taking is important when it comes to your course load, which can impact your financial aid.

Course Loads

Most graduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits per academic period to be considered full-time, between 9-11 credits per academic period to be considered three-quarter time, and at least 6 credits per academic period to be considered half-time.

SBS graduate students may take up to 15 credits in the Fall and Spring academic periods with the exception of full-time students who may take up to 16-17 credits in the first academic period based on their program requirements. Fully online SBS graduate students may take up to 7.5 credits per academic period (Fall, Spring or Summer).

CAS graduate students may not exceed 12 credits in the Fall and Spring academic periods with the exception of full-time students who make take up to 16-17 credits in the first academic period.

International Students

All international students are required to enroll in at least 12 credits per academic period in residence.

Summer Academic Periods

SBS graduate students (except online MBA students) may take a maximum of 15 credits during an entire summer academic period but may not exceed 7.5 credits in either Summer 1 or Summer 2 academic periods.

CAS graduate students may take a maximum of 12 credits during an entire summer academic period but may not exceed 6 credits in either Summer 1 or Summer 2 academic periods.

Excess Course Petition

Permission is required to exceed the normal full-time course load in any one academic period for all graduate students.
