Four Law Schools Launch Innovative Online Course Exchange Collaboration
BOSTON, August 12, 2025—Suffolk University Law School, Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law of Knoxville, Tenn., St. Mary's University School of Law of San Antonio, Tex., and Southwestern Law School of Los Angeles, Cal., today announced the formation of a groundbreaking online course exchange collaboration that will enable students at each institution to access a select set of courses from partner schools. The program will launch in Spring 2026.
All four of the law schools have demonstrated leadership in online legal education, including topnotch instructional design, making them natural partners.
The national collaboration will enable students to access the courses for credit at no additional cost. Students will benefit from specialized offerings that may not be available at their home institutions.
For example, one school might open spaces in its suite of entertainment law courses, while another might open up slots within its legal technology offerings. Throughout the program, students will remain fully enrolled at their home schools.
Key features of the collaboration include:
- Synchronous online courses where students and faculty meet and interact in real-time, similar to traditional classroom settings
- Reserved seats for students from partner institutions
- Adherence to American Bar Association standards, which now allows law students to take up to half of their courses online.
“This collaboration offers students an exciting opportunity to take distinctive classes at other law schools," said Andrew Perlman, dean of Suffolk Law. "Students also will have the opportunity to interact with students and faculty in other parts of the country without adding costs or changing the core experience that defines each participating law school."
While initially limited to four law schools, the team of schools expects to expand to include additional institutions in the future.
