Day of Giving 2019

On May 1st, Suffolk University will host our third annual Day of Giving. The Day of Giving is an event where the Suffolk community comes together to make an impact on the lives of current and future students.

Supporting Students in Need

Last fall, a fire in an apartment building left a Suffolk student temporarily displaced mid-semester. Another student found herself short on rent when the restaurant where she worked delayed its opening. Wednesday, May 1, marks Suffolk’s Third Annual Day of Giving. This year 10 percent of the funds raised will support the Suffolk CARES Student Emergency Assistance Fund and Law Student Emergency Assistance Fund. Both programs provide small grants to help eligible students cope with unexpected expenses caused by crisis situations.

“These grants give students the opportunity to take their minds off of external stress and focus on their academics,” says Amanda McGrath, director of student outreach and support.

Matching Funds Maximize Impact

This year’s goal is to achieve 501 donors on 5/01. Meeting that goal will unlock $50,000 in matching funds from a generous group of alumni, faculty, staff, and parents.

To meet this year’s fundraising goal, a concerted communication effort will include social media, emails, student philanthropy calls, and a presence on the university website. Staff will be on-hand at tables in every building on campus to receive donations. The Alumni Association Boards and the GOLD Council have also created teams to help raise funds.
