New Eatery in 73 Tremont

Members of the Suffolk University community were in a festive mood as they gathered for the official grand opening celebration of Café 73.

“We are very proud and happy to have this facility for our students, faculty, and staff to share and enjoy,” said Acting President and Provost Barry Brown. “It’s a great location, right next to the library, for people to come and relax, have a meal, and study with friends.”

The event included a sampling of signature sandwiches, salads, soups, and seasonal coffee drinks. Entertainment was provided by students from the Performing Arts Office.

Café 73 is accessed through the rear entrance of 73 Tremont St. A lounge area sits at the top of the stairs which lead down into the café. Murals of Suffolk from more than 100 years ago decorate the walls.

“This café is a wonderful and popular venue,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Nancy Stoll. “It has helped to build community involvement, and reaction from the students has been enthusiastically fantastic.”

The project was funded through a contribution of more than $1 million from Sodexo. Café 73 was designed by the architecture and interior design firm of Tsoi/Kobus & Associates with Turner Construction acting as the general contractor.
