Library Services

The Mildred F. Sawyer Library happily welcomes alumni back to campus to use its collection. As a Suffolk graduate, you can check out any books from the circulating collection and use any reference books, paper, or microform periodicals in the library.

Checking Out Books

If you're interested in having borrowing privileges at the Sawyer Library, first get an alumni photo ID card. You can pick up your ID card at the security desk in Sargent Hall. You'll need to provide your Suffolk ID number in order to receive your card. If you've forgotten this number, please email us with your name, degree, and graduation year.

Once you have your ID, tap your ID card at the Sawyer Library's main entrance on Tremont Place (at the back of the Stahl Building at 73 Tremont Street). Visit the Circulation/Reserves Desk, just to your left as you enter the library, and ask the staff to add or edit your record in the library system. This will allow you to check out books. Please note: You cannot check out non-circulating items like reference books, periodicals, and reserve books for current classes, or schedule/book a six-seat group study room.

You must be in the library’s administrative system to check out books, since your student account will have expired.

Please note that the library reserves the right to terminate services to any users who abuse their library privileges (for example: failure to return items).

Databases & Interlibrary Loan

The library's database vendors restrict off-campus to access to their products to current Suffolk faculty and students. Some e-resources may be available for on-suite use. You might also be able to gain access to the resources you are looking for from your local public library or the Boston Public Library (if you are a Massachusetts resident).

Interlibrary loan is a service reserved for current students and faculty, your local public library is likely to be able to assist you with finding the materials you need. You may also find a library in your area that holds a particular book or periodical through WorldCat.

For Internet Access:

If you graduated before 2010, see a library staff member, they can create a guest Wi-Fi account for you. If you graduated after 2010, you should be able to log on to the wi-fi using your Suffolk user name and password.
