• Human Subjects Protection Education

Please note: The CITI Program website will be down for maintenance from August 3rd to August 8th, approximately.  Please complete any work in progress and log off before the 3rd.  Thank you.

Federal regulations require that all individuals conducting research with human subjects complete a human subject protection training program. It is the Principal Investigator’s responsibility to make sure that the entire research team has completed the training prior to IRB approval.

Suffolk University has changed their Human Subjects Protection Education program as of September 1, 2008.  We are implementing the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program (http://www.citiprogram.org/) as our new system.

Instructions for Registering and Completing the Course:

As the May 1, 2009 transition deadline has passed, all Suffolk University investigators and research teams conducting human subjects research must now be CITI certified prior to receiving final IRB approval.

Outside investigators seeking to do research at Suffolk University or to collaborate with a Suffolk University investigator must have a certification in human subjects protection.  They must provide a copy of the human subjects protection certification required by their institution to the IRB.  If their instituition does not have an education program of their own, outside investigators will be required to complete Suffolk University’s CITI training.

All Completion Certificates submitted to the IRB are valid for two years. All certified individuals will receive an automatic reminder from CITI approximately 90 days prior to their two year anniversary date.  At that time, the CITI Refresher Course must be completed and a new certification submitted.
