Suffolk Celebrates America Recycles Day 2009

Check out our photos from November 12!

How much does Suffolk recycle?

Since starting to expand its recycling program in 2006, Suffolk has gone from recycling just 5% of our wastestream to recycling 40% of our total wastestream, reaching our 40% goal for Fiscal Year 2010!  Thank you to all those who are helping us meet our goal by reducing waste and recycling.  Keep up the good work so we can be sure to continue on this path and meet or surpass our goal.  For a graph of our progress and goals, click here.   To hear the story of the expansion of Suffolk’s recycling program, click here.

What does Suffolk recycle?

  • Paper (including colored paper, staples, windowed envelopes, paperboard boxes)
  • Corrugated Cardboard (flattened and empty)
  • Glass, Metal, and Plastic (empty)
  • Universal Waste (batteries, fluorescent bulbs)
  • Electronics (computers, monitors, copy machines, printers, cassette or VHS tapes, CDs)
  • Inkjet and Laser Cartridges
  • Toner Cartridges (from printers, copiers, and fax machines)
  • Surplus Materials (furniture)

Where does Suffolk recycle?

In fall 2006, paper recycling expanded to all Suffolk buildings.  The bottle and can recycling program has been up and running since winter 2006.  Beginning with a pilot program in 2007, we now have four cafe kitchens on campus recycling organics.

How to Recycle

Suffolk University has invested in dozens of recycling bins which are located throughout campus.  If a bin requires empyting, contact recycle@suffolk.edu with the building, floor, and closest room number.

If you have broken office equipment that is not going to be repaired, please fill out a work request through Facilities Management to have the item picked up and recycled.  This goes for any type of electronic waste as well, such as cassettes or CDs.

To recycle cardboard, empty the box and remove any plastic wrap, then flatten and place next to your recycling bin.

If you have office supplies (notebooks, etc.) that you want to donate, post the items on our Surplus Stuff page on Campus Cruiser.  Click here for more information.

Need a recycling bin for your office?  Send us an email or give us a call.
