• Peer Mentor Program

The Suffolk University Mentors for Underrepresented Students (SUM for US) Peer Mentor Program is designed to match first-year students with current students.  The first year of college is very exciting, but it can also be challenging.  Adjusting to a new school, new professors, a new environment, and sometimes even a new city and new living situation can seem overwhelming.  Our program is designed to help make this transition as smooth as possible.

As a SUM for US mentee, you will be paired with an upper-class mentor who will serve as a friend and guide during your transitional first year of college.  The mentors are well versed in university resources from academics to campus involvement and everything in between.

Since this is a pilot program spaces are limited.  If you are interested in this program and would like a mentor assigned to help you through your first year you need to fill out this form.  You can email the application to diversity@suffolk.edu or fax the application to 617-573-8458.  You will be notified of your acceptance and invited to a Meet the Mentor event at the start of the academic year.  From there mentors and mentees are encouraged to keep in touch throughout the school year.

If you have additional questions or concerns you may also contact Tawanya Garrett at (617) 994-4213 or tgarrett@suffolk.edu for more information.

The Suffolk University Mentors for Underrepresented Students (SUM for US) Peer Mentor Program is a joint effort of the Office of Diversity Services, the Office of Retention Services, and the Ballottti Learning Center.
