Each of our projects has one person who leads the group to the site, communicates with the apeople in charge when on-site, and helps to get the word out about our events. We are always seeking new project leaders at the onset of each academic year; Contact us at souls@suffolk.edu to find out more.
S.O.U.L.S. has a staff of 10-15 work-study students every semester, assisting us with the programs that we offer. Stop by S.O.U.L.S. in Donahue 209 or Student Activities in D529 to pick up an application. Positions are currently filled for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Our annual beginning of the year kick-off for first-year students! Join us for a month of events culminating with the First Year Service Day to get your start on working with various community service organizations in Boston. A long-standing tradition at both institutions, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, at the Advent Church, Paulist Center, St. John the Evangelist have provided meals to homeless and needy persons through their Supper Clubs. An average of 5-10 students can be found each week assisting with meal preparation or serving warm food to the hundreds of guests each night.
Join us on April 3, 2009 for our twelfth annual Campus-Wide Service Day and dinner. Sites will be announced in February; applications will be available soon after this for both groups and individuals.
November is Hunger and Homelessness Month, and S.O.U.L.S. will have many events focusing on service for the needy and education on the issues. In addition to our month-long Canned Food and Warm Clothing Drives, we will be planning panel discussions and speakers, volunteer opportunities, workshops, and other activities. Blood Drives are held twice a year, in October and April.
Food for Thought is our monthly discussion club of social issues. One short article is read by the group and then discussed over lunch every three weeks. Be sure to stop by the office to get the article up to two weeks in advance and join us to discuss how to make the world a better place.
