The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement contributes to the mission of the University by providing a variety of co-curricular programs, services and facilities that:
The staff members in the Student Leadership and Involvement Office are committed appreciation of diversity and developing the leadership potential of Suffolk students. When individual students become more effective leaders, our student organizations, and the educational experience for all students, is enriched and strengthened.
To accomplish our mission, the office of Student Leadership and Involvement:
Lead and direct departmental initiatives that provide a comprehensive range of services including campus-wide programming, advising for over 80 clubs and organizations, community service learning initiatives, campus function space reservations, maintenance of student activities center operations, new student programs, and leadership development initiatives. Supervise professional, support and graduate staff and maintain an administrative budget and serve as signatory for student budgets. Serve as advisor to the Student Government Association, Finance Committee and Class Councils. Plan and coordinate Family Orientation. Coordinate the annual honors Recognition Day celebrating academic excellence, Leadership Awards Banquet and chair Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities selection committee.
Lead and direct departmental initiatives that provide a comprehensive range of services including campus-wide programming, advising for over 80 clubs and organizations, campus function space reservations, maintenance of student activities center operations, graduate student programming, leadership development initiatives, student media advising, production of departmental publications. Supervise professional, support and graduate staff and maintain an administrative budget with signatory responsibility for office and student organization contracts.
Administers the organization/club registration process. Serves as Staff Advisor and develops training/development experiences for Program Council. Provides commuter student outreach initiatives and resources in conjunction with Retention Services, Off Campus Housing and Commuter Student Association. Serves as co-adviser to the Commuter Student Association. Oversees thematic week initiatives such as Unity Week, Welcome Week, Welcome Back Week, Commuter Connections Weeks and Spring Week. Creates and maintains support systems for faculty and staff advisors as well as program advisors. Serves as integral member of Student Leadership and Involvement staff and supports departmental initiatives.
The Associate Director for Orientation and New Student Programs has primary responsibility for implementing new student programs including first-year and transfer student orientation, opening week activities and Family Weekend. Additional responsibility for coordinating new student programs including SU101: FYE Seminar, Freshmen Leadership and Involvement Programs, and the virtual FYE program. Provides leadership in departmental retention efforts and serves as Program Advisor for academic student organizations.
The Assistant Director for New Student Programs works closely with the Associate Director to implement new student programs including first-year and transfer student orientation, opening welcome week activities and Family Weekend. Additional responsibility for coordinating new student programs including SU101: coordination of Sawyer School of Business SU 101 sections, curriculum training, instructional support meetings and teaching a section of the FYE course. The Assistant Director also serves as a Program Advisor for various student organizations and oversees sophomore initiative programs.
The Office Coordinator is responsible for providing high-quality office and program support to the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement. This includes primary responsibility for providing day to day operations of the Student Leadership and Involvement Office, supervision and development of student assistants (over 30), and program support for student organization and departmental initiatives
Primary responsibility for providing administrative maintenance to departmental and student organization budgets, and other assigned fiscal related services, and integrating these services consistent with the policies and regulations of the University. Additional responsibilities include support for major departmental programs, including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Recognition Programs, Service Learning Initiatives, MBTA Pass Program and Family Weekend.
The Graduate Fellow for Student Government and Program Advising Center has primary responsibility for advising the Student Government Association (SGA) Public Relations Committee and the Student Judiciary Review Board, provide project support for SGA elections, Who’s Who selection committee, and the annual Leadership Awards Banquet.
The Graduate Fellow for Programming is an active member of the Student Leadership and Involvemnt Office. The primary responsibilities are to co-advise and further the development of Program Council (PC) as well as other assigned student organizations through their activities and programming efforts. In addition, the Graduate Fellow works in conjunction with the Associate Director of Student Leadership and Involvement to promote community building and leadership development through large-scale programmatic efforts.
The Graduate Fellow for Community Service and Service Learning is an active member of the Student Leadership and Involvement Office and the Suffolk University Community Service Center. Responsibilities include recruitment and education of students regarding service opportunities, planning and implementation of campus wide service events, supervising the center’s work study staff, and other projects as needed. The Graduate Fellow works in conjunction with the Director of Service Learning to promote community building through programmatic efforts, campus publications and interaction with students, faculty and staff.
Attendants are responsible for evening operations of the Student Leadership and Involvement Center after hours, including handling key and gaming equipment distribution as well as closing the center in the evening at 10:00 p.m. when the building closes and all club/organization office space is locked as necessary to ensure utilization, safety and security.
