00:05 - Suffolk is ranked in the top tier,

00:06 as it pertains to the MPA program,

00:08 which is one of the best in the United States,

00:10 as well as the actual accessibility to commuters.

00:14 And then the notoriety

00:15 based on past accomplishments of students.

00:18 - I always knew I needed more of that academic foundation,

00:21 and they have a program,

00:23 the Suffolk Commonwealth Fellowship Program,

00:25 that allows state workers to go to school at Suffolk

00:29 and work part-time.

00:30 So I'd always had my eye on that program for quite a while,

00:33 and when the opportunity presented itself,

00:34 I applied for that.

00:38 - Suffolk really taught me how to be a better manager

00:41 and how to interact with other people.

00:42 Every single course that I took,

00:46 the professors really were able to give me

00:49 real life scenarios that I had never experienced.

00:51 - It was a much more practical, reality-based education

00:56 that really felt like it acknowledged

00:58 that students were working in government

01:01 at the same time they were going to school.

01:03 - I came in thinking I had all of this experience,

01:07 and what I learned is that I didn't,

01:08 in that I had a lot more to learn.

01:10 - The fact that the professors in the Suffolk program

01:13 bring experience, not just an educational background

01:17 to their teaching within the program

01:20 is a really core, essential tool.

01:25 There are times when I can still hear

01:27 Professor Doug Snow's voice in my head,

01:29 and I can still think, oh yeah,

01:31 he said it's gotta be a zero sum.

01:33 So those pieces have been really valuable for me.

01:39 - And the program itself is structured

01:41 that it educates you more holistically

01:44 than just about lecturing.

01:47 - The networks that you will develop are second to none.

01:50 - I met people that I never would have met

01:53 because of Suffolk.

01:57 - Being a part of the program is something

01:58 that you should feel passionate about

02:00 and something if you care about community,

02:02 you care about this world,

02:04 you care about your neighbors,

02:06 I think it's a program that gives you a wide exposure

02:09 to a myriad of ways that you can help make a difference.

02:13 - It really taught me how that, in public service,

02:15 how we create public value and that term

02:17 never entered into my vocabulary until I took this,

02:21 got involved with this program.

02:23 - I think I'm a better person,

02:24 but I also think I'm a better administrator.

02:27 I think I'm a better leader.

02:28 - It really taught me to be a more compassionate

02:31 administrator and leader for the groups that I work with.

02:34 - I think it helped me in my career

02:35 because after I left Suffolk University,

02:37 I moved to Washington, DC.

02:40 The program I got into the federal government

02:43 was it was a program for people with advanced degrees,

02:45 trying to get into the government

02:47 and having an advanced degree in public administration,

02:50 that really helped me get my foot inside the door.

02:53 - It really has opened up a lot of doors

02:55 and has really allowed me to explain

02:59 the potential of state government more effectively

03:01 and show where we can go with state government.

03:04 - The education was the most important,

03:05 but all the social connections I have now

03:09 and the things I've been invited back to.

03:12 I do some guest lecturing at a class at least yearly.

03:16 I was brought back to the Moakley Breakfast

03:18 to be on a panel.

03:20 I never would have those experiences

03:21 if I didn't come to the university.

03:23 - It is the experience of a lifetime.

03:25 You will develop friendships that will last forever.

03:28 And the experience that you will get

03:30 will make you better,

03:32 in any aspect of what you go for Suffolk.

03:33 So if you're a public administrator, administration,

03:36 it will make you a better public administrator.

03:37 If you're going for law school,

03:38 it'll make you the best lawyer.

03:40 I highly recommend Suffolk University to anyone.
