BSBA alum Mike Farago always knew he would go on to earn his MBA. The hard part was finding the time. As the COO of a mid-size dental laboratory and owner of a small business consulting firm, commuting to class would need to somehow fit into his busy schedule.
That’s when he found Suffolk’s MBA North Campus, conveniently located in Lawrence, Mass. “It was the perfect fit for me and my career. I started by taking one class as a MAPS student, so I could try it out. I ended up enrolling in the program immediately thereafter,” said Farago, who also received an alumni scholarship.
Set to graduate in 2016 with a concentration in organizational behavior, Farago says his Suffolk education has given him the confidence and skills to tackle tough challenges in the business world. At the dental laboratory, his time is split between executive management and working on the production floor.
“Every day presents a new set of challenges, and it is really great to be able to see the direct impact of decisions that are being made and how they are creating growth within the company,” he said. Today, the company is one of the fast-growing laboratories on the east coast, with 25 percent growth year over year.
At his consulting firm, Farago works with a variety of small businesses, ranging from robotics manufacturers and dance studios to furniture companies and law firms. “Small businesses rarely have a safety net of any kind, and the slightest miscalculation can be catastrophic for the organization. I have never ended a work day and felt like I didn’t accomplish something meaningful,” he said.
For Farago, combining MBA classes with full-time work has helped him build practical skills for the workplace. “Being in class with people from such a wide variety of backgrounds brings viewpoints that you would otherwise not have access to. I have even used my company for a few group projects and developed growth plans that I can implement immediately,” he said.
And Farago’s connection to Suffolk won’t end after graduation. “As a student, you have the support of the Suffolk community as a whole, which can be very comforting. The alumni network is strong, and everyone is willing to go above and beyond for you,” he said.
