Information Systems Major and Minors

IS professionals must understand both technical and organizational factors, and must be able to help an organization determine how information and technology-enabled business processes can provide a foundation for superior organizational performance.  They serve as a bridge between the technical and management communities within an organization. - ACM Computing Careers

Information systems are at the center of enterprises, big and small, which concerned about getting the right work done (being effective) and doing it without overspending (being efficient).

Managing and providing information, designing the applications and databases that allow easy access to and use of that information, and specifying, programming and supporting the infrastructure (i.e., computers, software, networks, etc.) are all part of the information systems domain.

An Information Systems (IS) major prepares students for careers in the application of information systems and information technology in all areas of business.  The IS major curriculum will develop your communications and team building skills and involve real-world projects.  Your IS major will allow you to succeed in a job market in which the integration of information technology, information systems, and operations management are increasingly vital for career mobility.

Our IS major requirement completion of 21 credit hours in courses such as Systems Analysis and Design and Database Management .  Elective courses include Web Application Development and Advanced Internet Applications with Java .

We also offer a minor in Information Systems and a minor in Electronic Commerce, which includes the opportunity to specialize in graphic design for e-commerce or Web programming.  You may also be interested in our undergraduate concentration in Web Design  or Functional Information Systems Minor for College of Arts and Sciences Students.
