The development of the “Suffolk Cares 2005” bracelets was spearheaded by Maureen Wark of Residence Life, working with the firm Shrader and Shrader, which produced 2,500 bracelets at a reduced cost. The color purple was chosen to evoke Mardi Gras.
The bracelets are available to students for $5, and for $10 to faculty and staff, with all proceeds going to Hurricane Katrina disaster relief. The base cost of each bracelet was 84 cents, and the goal is to raise $20,000.
Contributions from the following offices covered production costs for the bracelets: the Offices of the President, the Provost, the Dean of Students, the Dean of Enrollment, MIS, Human Resources, Campus Ministry & Interfaith Center, Student Activities and Service Learning, Financial Aid, Suffolk University Police and Security, Residence Life and Summer Programs, and the Budget Office.
