As part of Suffolk University’s observance of World AIDS Day, the Office of Diversity Services will present a production of Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens.

There will be one performance only on Monday, December 3, 2007, at 7:00pm.

With book and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Janet Hood, Elegies... is a celebration of lives lost to AIDS, as told through free-verse monologues with a blues, jazz and rock score.  Elegies...will be directed by Kyle Hemingway and SiouxSanna Ramirez-Cruz of Emerson College, with music directed by Julia Scott Carey of the New England of Music.
 
Elegies...will feature the talents of several members of the Suffolk University community, including Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism Chris Clemens, Office Coordinator for the Theatre Department Emma Putnam, College of Arts and Sciences Web Editor and Writer Shannon Rosa, and Director of the Performing Arts Office Kristin Baker.  Several Suffolk University students will also be featured, including sophomores Huguette Diakabana and Stephanie Lepine, freshmen David Fritzson and Nicholas Panagiotou,  and alumnus Matthew John Finn.
  
All proceeds from this one-night-only performance will benefit the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. Founded in 1983, AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts is a not-for-profit, community-based health organization whose mission is to stop the HIV/AIDS epidemic by preventing new infections and optimizing the health of those already infected.  Through a cooperative and mutually supportive effort between over 70 staff and hundreds of volunteers, AIDS Action seeks to assist and constructively work with people of all cultures by providing services, education, advocacy and prevention.
 
AIDS Action accomplishes that mission by providing support services for people living with AIDS and HIV, educating the public and health professionals about how to prevent HIV transmission, and advocating for fair and effective AIDS policy at the city, state and federal levels. AIDS Action provides free, confidential services to 2,500 men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.
