In the aftermath of the prisoner swap that led to the release of US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, Philosophy Professor Nir Eisikovits tackles the principle of never negotiating with terrorists in the article “Explained: Why We Must Negotiate With Terrorists,” published in “The Buzz” section of The National Interest magazine.

Eisikovits argues that failure to thus negotiate so in the context of modern conflicts is tantamount to abandonment of POWs.

"Refusing to 'negotiate with terrorists' is the same as telling our soldiers that we will never talk to their enemies, which amounts to telling them that they have nothing to hope for if they are caught, which is the same as telling them that we don’t 'have their back,'" he writes.
