Mental Health Counseling

Do you want to help individuals and groups manage depression, anxiety, addiction, abuse, trauma, and other mental health issues? Suffolk University’s graduate program will give you the knowledge and skills to become an effective and compassionate mental health professional.

Program Options

  • Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling (MSMHC)

    Learn to assess, diagnose, and treat clients with a variety of mental health issues. Includes a supervised clinical practicum. Combine the master’s degree with our Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (see below) to qualify for Massachusetts licensure.
  • MSMHC/Master of Public Administration

    Offered jointly with the Sawyer Business School, this program is designed for human service professionals who wish to strengthen their direct-service skills and succeed in a leadership role.
  • MSMHC/Master of Science in Crime and Justice Studies

    This joint program enables students to strengthen their direct-service skills in the increasingly interdependent areas of mental health, human services, and criminal justice.
  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Mental Health Counseling

    If you already have a master’s degree in mental health counseling, school counseling, or a closely related field, gain the additional academic and clinical experience to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts. Includes a supervised clinical internship. Licensure permits reimbursement by insurance companies for counseling services.
